This policy describes what Home Clean Guide collects when you read this site, what we do with it, and what rights you have over it. It covers homecleanguide.com and nothing else. It is written to be read rather than to be survived, so it is shorter than most.
The short version
We do not run analytics. We do not run advertising networks or tracking pixels. We set no cookies of our own, we have no user accounts, no newsletter, and no contact form. We never sell or rent personal information. What we hold is server logs, and whatever you choose to put in an email to us.
What we collect
- Server logs. Like every web server, ours records the request: an IP address, the page requested, the date and time, the referring page, and the browser and operating system the request announced. This is generated automatically by visiting, and we use it only to keep the site working and to investigate abuse or attacks.
- Email you send us. If you write to us, we hold your message and your email address for as long as needed to deal with what you wrote about, and to keep a record of corrections made to articles.
- Comments, where they are enabled. If you leave a comment on an article, WordPress stores the name and email address you enter, your IP address, and your browser’s user agent string, so the comment can be attributed and moderated. Your email address is not published.
That is the complete list. We do not ask for your name, address, telephone number, date of birth, or payment details, because we have nothing to do with them. We do not sell products and we never see your order.
Cookies
Home Clean Guide sets no cookies of its own on readers who are not logged in, and there is no cookie banner here because there is nothing to consent to on our side.
Two other parties are involved. Our site sits behind Cloudflare, which may set a security cookie to tell human traffic from automated attacks. And when you follow a link to a retailer, that retailer sets its own cookies on its own site under its own policy, which is how affiliate commission is attributed. Amazon’s practices are described in Amazon’s privacy notice, not in this one.
Affiliate links
Some links here are affiliate links. When you click one, you may pass through a redirect on our own domain before arriving at the retailer. That redirect exists so a broken link can be repaired in one place, and it carries an identifier that tells the retailer the visit came from this site. It does not identify you to us, and we do not receive your name, your address, or anything about what you bought beyond an aggregate count of qualifying purchases. The commercial side of this is described in our Affiliate Disclaimer.
What we do not do
We do not build profiles of readers, we do not run behavioral advertising, and we do not use automated decision-making. We do not share personal information with anyone for their own marketing purposes, and there is no circumstance in which we sell it. We do not combine what we hold with data bought from anywhere else.
Who processes data on our behalf
Running a website means relying on other companies. Our hosting provider stores the site and its logs. Cloudflare sits in front of the site, filtering malicious traffic, and processes IP addresses to do it. Our email provider carries messages you send us. Each of these acts on our instructions, and none of them is permitted to use what they process for their own purposes.
Legal bases
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you, we rely on legitimate interests for server logs and for the security measures that use them, since a site that cannot defend itself cannot stay online. Where you write to us, or leave a comment, we rely on your consent, which you give by choosing to send it and can withdraw by asking us to delete it.
How long we keep it
Server logs are kept only as long as they are useful for security and troubleshooting. Email is kept for as long as the matter it concerns is live, and longer where it records a correction to an article, because our Editorial Policy commits us to keeping a record of what we changed and why. Comments stay with the article unless you ask us to remove them.
Your rights
Wherever you are, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to [email protected] and we will answer.
If the UK or EU GDPR applies to you, you also have the right to restrict or object to processing, the right to receive your data in a portable form, and the right to complain to your data protection authority if you are unhappy with how we have handled a request.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what we collect and why, the right to have it deleted, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.
We do not charge for answering a request, and we will not ask you for more information than we need to find your records.
International transfers
Readers come from several countries and the companies that keep this site running operate across borders, so the information described above may be processed outside the country you are reading from. Where that happens under the UK or EU GDPR, it is done using the safeguards that legislation requires.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something, write to us and we will delete it.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS, it sits behind a filtering proxy, and administrative access is limited. No site can promise that an attack will never succeed, and we do not make that promise. What we can say is that there is very little here to steal, because we deliberately collect very little.
Changes to this policy
If we change how any of this works, we change this page and update the date at the top. Adding analytics, advertising, or any other form of tracking would be a change of that kind, and it would be described here before it went live rather than afterwards.
